GRATEFUL PATIENT Testimonial — Stephen and Beth McParland
When Stephen McParland realized he was going to require surgery, his immediate
reaction about North Hawaii Community Hospital (NHCH) was, “it’s
a small hospital; it can’t be that good.” He and
his wife
Beth considered Oahu as a possible alternative, but it meant travel and
Beth staying in a hotel.
Having had several experiences with major metropolitan hospitals in Boston, the McParlands were concerned that NHCH would not have the depth of a teaching hospital. But after getting to know Dr. Wong, and the close follow through that he exhibited on all questions and concerns raised, they became very comfortable. . By the time the procedure was scheduled, Stephen and Beth had complete confidence in Dr. Wong and NHCH.
The procedure was a success, as was Stephen’s recovery time in the hospital. The McParlands both appreciate the NHCH facility. He says, “Nobody heals in a hospital. But fresh air helps, as compared to being sequestered in a sterile room. It’s not a high rise in a big city; you have fresh air and every room opens to greenery. It is a comfortable place to get up and walk around.” Beth adds, “It doesn’t feel like a hospital.”
And the nursing care? Stephen says, “The care speaks for itself.” “The nursing staff is fabulous. Everyone greets you with a smile and is so attentive.” And comparing the nursing care to a hospital in Boston, he shares, “While they may have more physicians, the after care in Boston wasn’t near what I received at NHCH.”
